My husband and I recently visited Disney for a few days and stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you have not stayed here, it should definitely be on your radar. The resort is beautiful and absolutely unique in every way.
On our check in day, we decided to hang out at the resort and enjoy our surroundings. Animal Kingdom Lodge offers two free culinary tours; one is of Sanaa in Kidani Village and the other includes Boma and Jiko in Jambo House. We participated in the tour of Boma and Jiko.
There is no sign up necessary for this tour, no fee, and no strings attached! Just show up to the Boma podium about 15 minutes before the scheduled time and enjoy. You do not have to be a lodge guest to participate in this tour.
The guides were wonderful and showed us the many design elements of the restaurants. As always, I am so impressed with Disney’s attention to the details that most of us would not even pay attention to. In Boma for example, they have nods to all different African tribes by using the different types of nails that different villages would use! In Jiko the birds flying into the sunset is such a lovely touch!
When touring Boma, we were greeted by one of the chefs who explained the foods he was preparing for that night. We were allowed to sample the squash soup and zebra domes! They gave us huge bowls of soup! Who said there are no free meals at Disney World? Inside Jiko were were treated to their traditional breads and dipping sauces. Each bread and sauce was very unique. I have eaten at both of these restaurants before, but now I have a new appreciation for them!
