Today I am going to do something I never thought I would do again after College and that is tackle a math problem. So here it is. 2 families are traveling to Disney World at the same time. Each family consists of 2 adults, 1 child who is over the age of ten and therefore an adult in the eyes of Disney, and one child who is under ten. One family has chosen to purchase the Disney Dining Plan allowing each member of their party 1 quick service meal, 1 table service meal and one snack per guest per night of their stay. The other family has decided to forgo the dining plan and pay out of pocket. Lets take a look to see which family ends up spending more money.
Dining for the Day at Magic Kingdom
Dining Plan Family has spent $183.93 (which we know since they already have paid which is one large advantage of the dining plan)
The families have eaten exactly the same :
Snack: 2 cup cakes and 2 Mickey premium bars from their hotel.
Out of Pocket-$16.98
Quick Service: The families ate Lunch at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and order the following
Pulled Pork Sandwich, Cheeseburger, Taco Salad, and a Kids burger meal. They also order 3 drinks.
Out of Pocket- $41.06
As a Bonus the Dining Plan Family got dessert with their meals.
Table Service : Both Families are going to Crystal Palace
They both get the same buffets which includes drinks and desserts
The family paying out of pocket pays $138.19
Total
The family paying out of pocket paid $196.23
The family who used the dining plan saved $12.30 over the family who paid out of pocket.
Hmmmm….The dining plan looks fairly good when you see it written out like that! Do you think the dining plan is a good deal?
