Too Little to Ride? No Problem!

Traveling with a child who is under the height limit for some of the bigger attractions is much easier than you think. There is plenty to do and see with your pint sized Mouseketeer .

When you are touring with a little one you may feel that you are going to miss out on a lot, but in reality the parks have been designed to provide maximum entertainment that the family can enjoy together. Walt Disney was determined to design a park where parents and children could enjoy one another and to steer away from an environment that led to parents looking on as children enjoyed the attractions. This model has led to very family friendly parks.

Magic Kingdom

This park has an entire area, Fantasyland, that is filled with attractions the entire family can enjoy. Some favorites include:

Peter Pan’s Flight will take you on a flying pirate ship from the Darling bedroom through London and all the way to Neverland! Second star to the right and straight on til morning!

Under the Sea; Journey of the Little Mermaid is a brand new addition! This ride takes your through the scenes of the popular little mermaid movie, complete with all the music we all adore!

Mickey’s Philharmagic is a 3D musical film starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Follow Donald as he tries to retrieve Mickey’s sorcerer hat through scenes from classic Disney films!

Dumbo the Flying Elephant- Bonus! With Dumbo’s new interactive queue you will be given a restaurant style pager and will await your turn to ride in a play area that some feel is even more fun than the ride!

Move on over to Frontierland and enjoy a the Country Bear Jamboree with your clan. Also, from Frontierland you can catch a boat to Tom Sawyer’s Island where your entire family can become adventurers as you explore the caves and bridges of the larger than life playground.

In Adventureland families with little ones will have virtually no limitations. Take a boat ride on Pirates of the Caribbean or The Jungle Cruise. These are both very popular classic attractions that everyone can enjoy. You can also take flight on The Magic Carpets of Aladdin or catch the show in The Enchanted Tiki room. The entire area is family friendly!

In Tomorrowland you can jet into the future on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover, wage a friendly battle on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, or check out the Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor for a few corny but family friendly jokes.  Another favorite among the tiny tykes is The Tomorrowland Speedway where kids

In Liberty Square families will enjoy The Haunted Mansion and the Hall of Presidents.

Wow! See how much there is to do with the entire family, and that’s just one park!

Epcot is often seen as a more grown up park, but honestly there are very few rides here that have height restrictions. As a family with younger kids you may want to check out the following.

Future World

Future World to me is like a giant playground. There is so much to see and do and explore that kids should feel very entertained! Here are a few attractions that your whole family will enjoy!

Living with the Land in The Land Pavilion is a journey through the greenhouses of Disney where they produce food and raise fish and alligators!

Turtle Talk with Crush in The Living Seas Pavilion will engage you in a real time conversation with the totally rad turtle. This attraction always leaves me with a smile on my face. The character is totally endearing and it has just the right amount of Disney magic!

The Seas with Nemo and Friends is a fun journey aboard a clam shell through real fish tanks that contain not only real life sea creatures, but you will also see some familiar faces from Finding Nemo!

Journey into Imagination with Figment is a cute little ride that explores the depths of imagination and creativity through the mischievous purple dragon, Figment!

World Showcase

Often people view The World Showcase as a more adult section of the theme park, but I think there is a lot of kids to do and enjoy here!

Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure: This is a game that plays much like an episode of Phineas and Ferb,, the only difference is you and your family are taking over for Agent P to defeat the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballaros. You can find this cute boat ride in the Mexico Pavilion. Aside from this being one of the coolest pavilions to visit in general, this little ride is icing on the cake. Donald Duck fans will especially appreciate this attraction.

Catch the performances! There are so many talented musicians and entertainers throughout the World Showcase. Grab a times guide and check a few of them out. My favorites include the chair balancing act in France and Off Kilter, a Celtic rock band,  in Canada.

Hollywood Studios

This park happens to be very kid friendly! In particular, make sure you check out the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure where your kids can sit on the back of an ant, climb, slide, and play til their hearts content and Toy Story Midway Mania where the entire family can compete in 3D carnival style games.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure

Other attractions not to miss here are The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, The Great Movie Ride, Disney Jr. Live on Stage, Muppet Vision 3D.  At Hollywood Studios you should also plan on seeing Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage with the whole family!

Animal Kingdom

This park is great for families as a lot of it is similar in nature to a zoo, meaning that you are on a self guided walking tour through various habitats and animal enclosures.  As far as attractions go, everyone in your family will love Kilimanjaro Safari where you ride through the savannah in search of live animals such as hippos, elephants, lions, giraffes, and zebra.

Other not to miss family friendly attractions include:

Flights of Wonder which is a live performance featuring many species of birds. It is wonderful to watch and as a bonus is also educational!

The Boneyard is a wonderful playground that all of the kids in your groups will love. A great place for them to blow off steam!

Triceratops Spin is another great family attraction. Think prehistoric Dumbo.

Festival of the Lion King is a live Broadway style stage show that is one of the most popular attractions in the park. You want to check you times guide for performance times and plan on arriving early to secure seating.
